Top Tires Not Made in China: Trusted Brands from the USA, Europe and Japan

Looking to buy tires that don’t come from China? You’re not alone. Tires are a big ticket investment, where safety and quality come first. Also, they come in standard sizes, so once you know what fits your car, you can compare apples to apples. Michelin, for example, now mostly manufactures in China, but there are still a substantial number of manufacturers whose tires are not made in China.  Whether it’s quality, tariffs or ethical sourcing, many drivers are turning to tire brands made in the USA, Europe and Japan. Here’s your definitive guide.

🚗 You Can Check the DOT Code for Tires Not Made in China

A major problem with trying to locate products not made in China is the difficulty of being sure where something was made, or assembled, or designed or where the parts were made. Tires are different. You can look for codes that indicate where your tires were made. Once you have chosen a manufacturer, model and size, you can check and be 100% sure before you hand over your credit card. Take a look at the sidewall or the catalog listing and find the first two symbols after DOT:

DOT Code on Tire Sidewall

Here it says “CC,” the plant code. Then you click on the NHTSA Manufacturers Information Database and look over to the lower right where it says “Equipment Plants.” Click on it, select “Tires” from the dropdown and click “Search” at the lower left. It’s easier to do than to describe.

Example:

  • M6: Goodyear, Oklahoma
  • Y7: Bridgestone, Tennessee
  • UP: Cooper, Ohio
