Cheap and Easy Things Not Made in China To Start With

Let’s start with things you buy all the time – standard replacement items. Most of them are made in China, so if you want to find products not made in China you have to look for them. If you’re like me, even if you know that LED bulbs last for a very long time, they still seem to end up on the shopping list every so often. Batteries, on the other hand, even rechargeable ones, are constantly on the list.

Ledvance LED Light Bulbs are Made in the USA

The very next time you go to buy replacement light bulbs, you will now know to go right to Ledvance. If you forget, no worries – it says “Made in the USA” right on the front of the box. First of all, light bulbs are a standard item that are always the same – they plug in and do the job. Quality and aesthetics don’t form a major part of the buying decision. Ledvance is a German company that manufactures light bulbs in the USA and markets them under the Sylvania brand.

ENELOOP Rechargeable Batteries Are Made In Japan

I have been buying rechargeable batteries going all the way back to the days of NiCads. I don’t know if you remember those, but they were known for starting off strong and then dying suddenly. They have given way largely to modern NiMH AAs and AAAs. I keep having to buy more and more for all sorts of devices: hose timers to water the lawn in the summer, for example, giving way to holiday decorations like the lights inside pumpkins and Christmas candles in the windows Never have enough and still keep having to buy more. Panasonic makes some of them in China, but those only get exported to the Australian and New Zealand markets. The ones for North America, Europe and Japan are made in Japan.
