Yes, Every Leatherman Multi-tool

Multi-tool pliers with various fold-out tools on a brown surface.

They are manufactured in Portland, Oregon, where the company has been based since Tim Leatherman founded it in 1983. That has not changed. No lines have moved offshore, and the company makes no products in China.

The Portland facility handles the full production process — stamping, grinding, assembly, and quality control. Leatherman sources American steel for its tools. The result is a product where every component and every stage of production is domestic, which is uncommon in the tool category at any price point.

What Leatherman Makes in Portland

Although they make a line of fixed and folding knives, Leatherman’s core product is the folding multi-tool — a hinged pliers head with additional tools stored in the handles. The lineup runs from compact everyday carry models to full-size tools built for trades and field use. Current models include:

Wave+ — 18 tools including pliers, wire cutters, scissors, knife, and screwdrivers. The most widely carried Leatherman model and the one most stocked at retail. Suitable for EDC and general use.

Arc — 20 tools with a one-handed magnetic opening mechanism. The most capable model in the current lineup. Higher price point than the Wave+.

Signal — Built for outdoor and survival use. Includes a fire starter, emergency whistle, and hammer in addition to the standard tool set.

All three are available on Amazon and at major retailers including REI, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware.

The Warranty

Leatherman offers a 25-year warranty on all tools. In practice the company is liberal about honoring it — age and proof of purchase are not typically required, they don’t seem to care what caused the damage. Leatherman also offers a free Insider membership that extends warranty coverage to 40 years. Worth registering after purchase.

How to Verify

No need to. Every Leatherman tool is marked “Made in USA” on the packaging and on the tool itself. If a product you are looking at does not carry that marking, it is not a Leatherman or it is counterfeit. The company does not manufacture any products outside the United States.
