Levi’s does not manufacture its own jeans. The company works with independent contractor factories across approximately 34 countries. No single country accounts for more than 30% of production — that figure comes from Levi’s own SEC filings.
China is one of the largest sources. Estimates put Chinese factories at 20–30% of Levi’s global output. Bangladesh, Vietnam, India, Mexico, Pakistan, and Egypt are also major producers. Around 80% of Levi’s products are made in Asia.

The History
Levi’s was founded in San Francisco in 1853. For the next 130 years, production was largely domestic. At its peak in the 1970s, Levi’s operated more than 60 US manufacturing plants.
The offshoring started in the 1980s. Plants closed through the 1990s as the company shifted production to lower-cost countries. The last US factory — in San Antonio, Texas — closed in 2003. That ended 150 years of American-made Levi’s at commercial scale.

A 2019 SEC filing put the proportion of US-made Levi’s at approximately 1% of production. That number has not meaningfully changed.

If you pick up a pair of Levi’s 501s, a trucker jacket, or most anything else from a retail store or online, it was made overseas. The specific country varies by production run. The label is the only reliable source.
