Is Lululemon Made in China?
Lululemon is a Canadian company headquartered in Vancouver. Its leggings, tops, and shorts are sold at premium prices and carry a strong reputation for quality. The question of where they are made is more complicated than the brand’s marketing suggests.
Many Lululemon items carry the label “Made in China.” Others are assembled in Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, or Indonesia using fabrics sourced from China. Under the WBFC standard – which evaluates country of origin at the finished goods and materials level – Lululemon does not qualify.
See brands that do on our Clothing page and more on the Women’s Clothing page.
What the Verification Found
Lululemon does not manufacture its own products. It operates through a network of third-party factories and does not disclose which factory produces which product line. Country of origin varies by style, season, and production run.
Lululemon’s own financial disclosures confirm China’s role directly. In 2025 the company disclosed an expected $240 million hit to gross profit from US tariffs, citing approximately 40% of products coming from Vietnam and approximately 30% of fabrics sourced from China Mainland. Units labeled “Made in Vietnam” or “Made in Cambodia” may still rely on Chinese-sourced materials at the fabric stage.
The April 2025 Lululemon Supplier List, published on the company’s own website at corporate.lululemon.com, includes active production facilities in Hefei, Guangzhou, Foshan, and other Chinese cities.
Verdict: does not qualify. China appears at both the fabric and finished goods level. There is no way to purchase a guaranteed non-China unit – origin varies by product and production run, and even a Vietnam-made label does not confirm a China-free supply chain.
What About the Sustainability Marketing?
Lululemon’s environmental and labor commitments – recycled materials on some lines, supplier audits, published factory lists – are real efforts and better documented than many apparel brands. They do not change the country of origin.
Ethical sourcing and manufacturing location are independent variables. A product can be made in China under strong labor standards. A product can be made in Vietnam under poor ones. Buyers who want clothing not made in China for supply chain reasons will not find a guaranteed option at Lululemon regardless of the brand’s sustainability credentials.
How to Check a Specific Item
Lululemon’s website does not consistently disclose country of manufacture at the product level – this is a meaningful difference from brands like Patagonia, which lists origin for every item. The label inside the garment states country of origin as required by US law, but this reflects assembly location only, not fabric origin.
There is no reliable way to pre-screen a Lululemon purchase for non-China origin before buying.
Lululemon Alternatives Not Made in China
The activewear category is harder to navigate than most. Vuori and Alo Yoga both have China in their supply chains. Patagonia has approximately 25-30% of production in China depending on the item – see our full Patagonia post for details. prAna engages Chinese manufacturing. Most brands marketing themselves as Lululemon alternatives face the same supply chain problems. The two brands below have been independently verified.
Girlfriend Collective
Seattle, Washington. Manufactures in Vietnam. Uses recycled materials – primarily post-consumer plastic bottles and fishing nets. Publishes factory audit reports. The closest direct style replacement for Lululemon leggings on this page – similar price point, similar everyday-to-workout positioning, size-inclusive up to 6X.
Best for: women looking for a direct Lululemon legging replacement with verified non-China manufacturing.
American Giant
San Francisco, California. Manufactures entirely in the United States – domestic cotton, US textile mills, American sewing facilities. Publishes its mill and factory relationships publicly. The women’s line includes leggings, joggers, and hoodies. Less yoga-specific than Lululemon but the most verified supply chain on this list. See more about American Giant on our main Clothing page.
Best for: buyers who want fully domestic manufacturing and durable everyday activewear basics.
