Most luggage sold in the United States is made in China. That includes brands at every price point – from budget carry-ons to several lines sold at premium prices with European-sounding names. The exceptions are real, verified, and in some cases better-built than anything China is producing at comparable price points.

1. 🇺🇸 Eagle Creek - Made in the USA and Philippines
Eagle Creek has made travel bags, packing cubes, and travel accessories since 1975. Their Pack-It system – compression cubes, pouches, and organizers – is manufactured in the Philippines. Their Migrate and Gear Warrior checked bag lines are made in the USA. Eagle Creek publishes country-of-origin by product line on their website; check the specific item before purchasing, as not all products qualify.
Eagle Creek’s strongest claim is the No Matter What warranty – lifetime repair or replacement, no receipt required, airline damage included. That warranty reflects genuine confidence in the build.

2. 🇻🇳 Osprey - Made in Vietnam
Osprey designs its packs in Cortez, Colorado and manufactures them in Vietnam. Vietnam is not China – Osprey has never produced in China and states this explicitly. Their Farpoint and Fairview travel pack lines are the most popular carry-on options; the Ozone rolling luggage line covers checked bag needs. Every Osprey product carries an All Mighty Guarantee – lifetime repair or replacement, no questions.
The caveat: Osprey is owned by Helen of Troy, a US holding company incorporated in Bermuda. Manufacturing is Vietnam; design is Colorado; corporate ownership is complicated. If corporate ownership is your concern, that is worth knowing. If manufacturing location is your standard, Osprey qualifies cleanly.

3. 🇺🇸 Briggs & Riley - Assembled in the USA
Briggs & Riley assembles its luggage in Hauppauge, New York, where the company has been based since 1993. The Baseline and Sympatico collections – their core hard and soft-sided luggage lines – are assembled at the New York facility. Some components are sourced internationally; the label says ‘Assembled in USA,’ not ‘Made in USA.’ If fully domestic component sourcing is your standard, this does not meet it. If American assembly with domestic workers is sufficient, this is the strongest option in the category.
The warranty is unconditional and permanent – repair or replacement for any reason, including airline damage, no time limit, no receipt required. Verify the specific collection on their website before purchasing, as newer product extensions may have different sourcing.

4. 🇩🇪 Rimowa - Made in Germany and Czech Republic
Rimowa has manufactured aluminum luggage in Cologne, Germany since 1898. Their aluminum Original and Classic lines are still made in Germany. The polycarbonate Essential line – lighter and more affordable – is manufactured in the Czech Republic. Neither line is made in China. Rimowa was acquired by LVMH in 2017; manufacturing locations have not changed under that ownership.
The aluminum lines are the clearest manufacturing story – German-made, verifiable, unchanged for over a century. The Essential polycarbonate carry-on starts around $700; the Original aluminum carry-on starts around $1,000. Rimowa sells direct at rimowa.com and has limited Amazon presence. Verify the specific collection before purchasing – manufacturing location is listed on each product page.

What to Avoid
Samsonite, Tumi, and American Tourister are overwhelmingly Chinese-made. Samsonite acquired Tumi in 2016 and produces most of both brands’ luggage in China and other Asian countries. American Tourister is a Samsonite sub-brand. ‘American’ in the name is not a manufacturing claim.
‘Designed in [USA/Europe]’ is not a manufacturing claim. Several luggage brands use design origin language to imply domestic manufacturing. Check the product label or manufacturer’s website for an explicit country-of-manufacture statement.
Away luggage is made in China. Away markets heavily on branding and a direct-to-consumer model. Manufacturing is China. The warranty is limited compared to the brands listed above.

Is Samsonite made in China?
