Vitamins & Supplements Not Made in China (2026)
Vitamin and supplement manufacturing is more complicated to verify than almost any other category on this site. Nearly every brand with a genuinely clean domestic manufacturing story still sources raw ingredients – especially Vitamin C and B-complex compounds – from a global supply chain that includes China, because China dominates raw vitamin-compound production at an industrial scale no other country has matched. A brand disclosing that fact is not a red flag. A brand hiding it is.
This page verifies where finished vitamins and supplements are manufactured and encapsulated – not where every raw ingredient originated, which even the most transparent US brands source globally. Where a brand is unusually transparent about ingredient sourcing, we note it. Where ownership is Chinese but manufacturing is not, we say so explicitly and it does not disqualify the brand, consistent with our standard across this site. For the full list of verified brands across every category, see our Brand Directory. This page covers ingestible vitamins and supplements specifically; for topical products like soap, lotion, and toothpaste, see Personal Care Products Not Made in China. If domestic US manufacturing specifically (not just non-China) is what matters to you, our sister site American Made Here covers USA-only brands across other categories.

1. 🇺🇸 Pure Encapsulations
Manufactured: Sudbury, Massachusetts (own FDA-registered facility)
Founded in 1991 with a specific mandate to meet pharmaceutical-level purity and documentation standards, Pure Encapsulations manufactures its hypoallergenic supplement line at its own FDA-registered facility in Sudbury, Massachusetts, following cGMP standards and NSF-GMP registration. The company maintains full in-house control over the production environment. Raw materials are sourced globally, including from China, but all encapsulation and finishing occurs domestically – every batch is independently tested by third-party labs for identity, potency, and purity before release.
Best for: buyers who want hypoallergenic, clinical-grade formulations free of common allergens and unnecessary fillers

2. 🇺🇸 Thorne
Manufactured: Summerville, South Carolina (own 270,000+ sq ft facility)
Thorne relocated its headquarters and manufacturing from Idaho to a purpose-built facility in Summerville, South Carolina in 2017-2018 specifically to expand domestic manufacturing capacity – a $35 million investment creating over 330 jobs. The brand is the most recommended supplement brand among healthcare practitioners in industry surveys, known for using active, bioavailable nutrient forms (methylcobalamin for B12, L-5-MTHF for folate) that bypass conversion steps most synthetic forms require.
Best for: buyers who want practitioner-grade formulations with bioavailable active nutrient forms
Recommended:
3. 🇺🇸 Nature Made (Pharmavite)
Manufactured: Valencia/San Fernando, CA; Opelika, AL; New Albany, OH
Nature Made, made by Pharmavite, is the most widely recognized USP-verified supplement brand in the US and the number one pharmacist-recommended vitamin brand, carrying USP Verified marks on over 100 products. Pharmavite operates its own manufacturing facilities across California, Alabama, and Ohio. The company is unusually direct about its supply chain on its own site: ingredients are globally sourced, and for a small number of products the company does not manufacture itself, it uses qualified international contract manufacturers. Pharmavite is a subsidiary of Otsuka Pharmaceutical of Japan – ownership does not affect eligibility under our standard.
Best for: buyers who want the widest retail availability and USP-verified potency testing
Recommended:
4. 🇺🇸 Designs for Health
Manufactured: Arlee, Montana & Henderson, Nevada (company-owned facilities)
Designs for Health states directly that the majority of its supplements are made in its own company-owned facilities in Arlee, Montana and Henderson, Nevada, giving the company full control over its quality protocols. Both facilities are FDA-inspected and NSF-GMP certified. The Montana facility, Ashley Martin Manufacturing, also brought manufacturing jobs to the Flathead Reservation area. A practitioner-channel brand founded in 1989.
Best for: buyers who want a brand with direct, company-owned control over most of its manufacturing
Recommended:
5. 🇺🇸 Metagenics
Manufactured: Gig Harbor, Washington
Metagenics states directly that most of its products are manufactured at its own state-of-the-art facility in Gig Harbor, Washington, a five-building, 100,000-square-foot campus housing manufacturing, operations, and R&D. Founded in 1983, Metagenics focuses on the practitioner channel with an emphasis on nutrigenomics and medical foods rather than mass-market vitamins.
Best for: buyers working with a practitioner on medical foods or targeted nutrigenomic formulations
Recommended:
6. 🇨🇦 Jamieson
Manufactured: Windsor & Scarborough, Ontario, Canada
Jamieson has manufactured vitamins in Ontario since 1922 and states directly on its own site that "an overwhelming majority" of its products are made at its facilities in Windsor and Scarborough, including a 120,000+ sq ft primary production plant. Consistently ranked Canada's most trusted vitamin brand. Publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange (JWEL). The company notes that a small number of specific product types – gummies and probiotics – are made by outside manufacturing partners rather than in-house; ingredients overall are globally sourced.
Best for: buyers who want a long-established, publicly accountable Canadian manufacturer
Recommended:
7. 🇯🇵 DHC
Manufactured: Japan
DHC Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo since 1972, manufactures its vitamin and supplement line at GMP-certified plants in Japan – individual product listings confirm "Country of Manufacture: Japan" on specific SKUs. DHC is one of Japan's leading health-food and cosmetics manufacturers, best known internationally for its Vitamin C and collagen supplements. We were not able to confirm a single named facility with the same specificity as the US and Canadian brands above, so treat this entry as reasonably but not fully verified.
Best for: buyers specifically interested in Japanese-formulated vitamin C and collagen supplements

Doctor's Best has been Chinese-owned since 2016. Doctor's Best is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kingdomway USA Corp, itself the US subsidiary of Xiamen Kingdomway Group, a company publicly listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Ownership alone would not disqualify the brand under our standard – the issue is that Doctor's Best's own product labels state "Manufactured FOR Doctor's Best, Inc." rather than "Manufactured BY," meaning the actual manufacturing location is not disclosed. Combined with Kingdomway's core business as a raw-material and finished-supplement manufacturer based in Xiamen, China, we could not verify a domestic manufacturing location for this brand and are not including it.
"Made in USA" alone is not sufficient verification for this category. A supplement can legally carry a "Made in USA" claim while every raw ingredient inside it was sourced from China, India, or elsewhere – the FTC's Made in USA standard concerns where the product was formulated and packaged, not raw material origin. Brands that make blanket "USA sourced" claims without naming their manufacturing facility should be treated with more skepticism than brands, like the ones above, that name a specific facility and are transparent about what they don't control.
Frequently Asked Questions
If a vitamin brand sources ingredients from China, does that disqualify it?
Not under our standard. We verify manufacturing location, not raw ingredient origin. Nearly every credible US supplement brand sources some raw compounds globally, including from China, because China dominates industrial-scale raw vitamin production. What matters more is whether the brand discloses this openly and controls the finishing, testing, and encapsulation domestically.
Does "Made in USA" on a supplement label guarantee domestic ingredients?
No. It indicates the product was manufactured and packaged domestically. It says nothing about where raw ingredients came from. This is true across the entire supplement industry, not specific to any one brand.
Does USP Verified or NSF certification mean a supplement isn't made in China?
No. These certifications test finished products against label claims and contaminant limits regardless of where they're manufactured – a China-manufactured facility with USP verification can outperform an unverified US facility on quality testing. Certification and manufacturing location are separate questions.
Why isn't a bigger mass-market brand like Puritan's Pride or Garden of Life on this list?
We could not confirm a specific manufacturing facility location from a primary source for these brands at the time of writing. Being left off this page means we haven't verified it yet, not that the brand is confirmed made in China. If you have a documented source, let us know and we'll review it.
How We Verified
Manufacturing locations for all brands on this page are confirmed directly through each company's own website, corporate disclosures, or facility announcements – not through secondary review sites. Pure Encapsulations' Sudbury, MA facility is confirmed via the brand's own FDA registration and product disclosures. Thorne's Summerville, SC facility and its relocation history are confirmed via the company's own FAQ and South Carolina economic development records. Nature Made's California, Alabama, and Ohio facilities and its ingredient-sourcing disclosure are confirmed directly on naturemade.com. Designs for Health's Montana and Nevada facilities are confirmed on designsforhealth.com. Metagenics' Gig Harbor, WA facility is confirmed via the brand's own product FAQ. Jamieson's Windsor and Scarborough, Ontario facilities are confirmed directly on jamiesonvitamins.com. DHC's Japan manufacturing is confirmed via individual product country-of-manufacture listings and the brand's own GMP quality page, though not tied to one named facility with the same specificity as the other brands here. Doctor's Best's ownership by Kingdomway USA Corp / Xiamen Kingdomway Group is confirmed via the brand's own newsroom announcement and a related SEC filing exhibit.
