What to Avoid
Casper, Purple, and Nectar are made in China or have mixed sourcing. Casper manufactures some models in the US and some in China – check the specific model before purchasing. Purple assembles in the US but sources its proprietary grid material from China. Nectar is manufactured in China. None meet a clean non-China standard across their full product lines.
‘Assembled in USA’ with Chinese components is not the same as US-made. Several brands assemble in US warehouses using foam and components manufactured in China. The FTC requires that ‘Made in USA’ claims be substantiated – if a brand uses ‘assembled in’ language, ask which components are domestic.
Fiberglass in budget mattresses is a documented hazard. Several Chinese-made mattresses use fiberglass as a flame barrier. When the cover is removed – including for washing – fiberglass particles can spread through the home and cause skin and respiratory irritation.
