Mostly Yes, Especially the Power Tools
Most of the power tools are, yes. Milwaukee’s M18 and M12 cordless lines — the drills, impact drivers, circular saws, and reciprocating saws that built the brand’s reputation — are manufactured in China. The labels say so.
That answer surprises some buyers. Milwaukee was founded in 1924 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is headquartered there today. But the company has been owned since 2005 by Techtronic Industries, a Hong Kong-based conglomerate that also owns Ryobi and Hoover. Most power tool production runs through Techtronic’s Chinese factories.
The more complete picture, though, is that Milwaukee has made substantial investments in US manufacturing in recent years — and several product categories are now genuinely made in America.
Hand Tools: West Bend, Wisconsin
In 2022, Milwaukee opened a 95,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in West Bend, Wisconsin, with a $55 million investment, dedicated to hand tool production. The facility produces pliers and screwdrivers to start, with additional hand tool categories planned.
The pliers from West Bend feature laser-hardened cutting edges and are made from boron-infused US steel. The screwdrivers have laser-etched tips and precision-fit blades. These are not assembled-from-imports products — they are manufactured at the Wisconsin facility and carry the valid Made in USA designation and say so right on the tools.
Milwaukee also makes hole saws, Sawzall reciprocating saw blades, step drill bits, and carbide hole saws in the United States. If you’re buying Milwaukee for American manufacturing, hand tools and cutting accessories are where to look.
Safety Helmets: Cookeville, Tennessee
Milwaukee’s BOLT safety helmet line is made in the United States, with production centered at their Cookeville, Tennessee facility. Milwaukee invested over $100 million in that facility, creating 350 manufacturing jobs in the region.
The BOLT helmets are worth noting beyond their origin. In 2025, the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab — the standard-setter for independent helmet safety testing — ranked the Milwaukee BOLT Safety Helmet with IMPACT ARMOR Liner as the top-performing helmet on the market for preventing traumatic brain injuries. The BOLT line offers Type 2 protection, covering both top and side impacts, which traditional hard hats do not.
Milwaukee’s own product listings mark the BOLT hard hats explicitly with “(USA)” — the designation appears in the product name on their website, which makes verification straightforward.
What's Made in China
The cordless power tool lines — M12, M18, and M18 FUEL — are made in China. So are most Milwaukee accessories, storage products, and lighting. The PACKOUT modular storage system and the majority of Milwaukee’s catalog are Chinese-manufactured.
How to Check a Specific Tool
Country of origin is required on imported goods. If you are in brick-and-mortar store, turn the tool over and check the label on the body or battery compartment. Milwaukee’s own website marks US-made products with “(USA)” in the product name — that’s a reliable shortcut when shopping online.
You can go to Acme Tools and find the country of origin on the product page.
